Intro + Intentions
Ever since I read 52 Projects, by Jeffrey Yamaguchi, I’ve wanted to embark on a creative ritual that I commit to doing weekly and consistently for up to a year (a project per week). In the book, Yamaguchi (2005) professes his love for projects and random acts of everyday creativity. The projects listed in the book range from writing exercises to photography assignments to cooking exploration, ideas for gifts, mail art, video, and tape recordings, and much more. I intend to take inspiration from the prompts in the book; try some, edit some, and come up with my own (that will surely be inspired by many other prompts and/or projects I come across).
This blog is meant to serve as the container for the weekly projects, where I document the process and make notes on what comes up. I’m curious to see what patterns emerge over time, what projects grow into new ones, where I feel flow, and where I get stuck. I have art materials that have sat in my room for many months, some years, gathering dust. I’m looking forward to making use of everything I have (which feels like a project of its own).
I imagine that this project will evolve and change over time. Cycles and all. I’m looking forward to that too.
